The manufacturing process of their styles like Vagabond sneakers begins with the shape of the shoe. Artisans determine elements such as the silhouette, fit and toe shape, then pair it with an outsole. The two elements create the general look of a collection. Next, they focus on other things like the uppers, structure and colors that come from inspiration. Vagabond designers find creativeness from music, film, architecture and most of all, people.
Afterward, their in-house workers carry out each design by cutting, stitching and constructing to build a prototype. They pay attention to the materials they implement along with the construction methods. With each prototype, Vagabond professionals make modifications in the studio until satisfied.
What started as a brand that only made men’s shoes, Vagabond is a Swedish footwear manufacturer that designs for men and women across the world. As co-founder and creative director, Marie Nilsson Peterzén believes the company is unique in owning its ideas and honing the skills necessary to bring particular elements to life. They sketch new styles and designs each day, making quality harmonious with their shoes.
Sustainability is a significant part of Vagabond’s daily operations, and they are now offering the Shoe Bring Back program. It encourages people to take responsibility for their shoes. The goal is to use sustainable materials and productions but also encourage recycling. Shoes that are wearable are redistributed to second-hand shops, and others that can’t be worn become new materials through recycling — so cool!
Vagabond stays with their sustainability commitments by noticing their conscious end-consumers. In 2017, they increased the use of organic GOTS cotton while also using recycled polyester and chrome-free tanned leather. The footwear company also launched the Paul in Wood collection, which are sneakers made of sustainable wood materials.
They even focus on chemical, water and energy management to extend to their demands of environment care and strive to develop long-term improvements and partnerships. They aim to extend the life of their shoes using top-quality materials and by encouraging shoe care. We can all do our part.
